Meeting you where you are, with curiosity and compassion
About Dr. Chan Wei Xin
Hello, my name is Wei Xin. I graduated from a doctorate in Psychology (PsyD) for Counselling Psychology when I was in Scotland, UK, where I trained and worked for 7 years. I offer in-person and online therapy, depending on which may fit your needs better.
I have experience working with anxiety, depression, trauma and impactful life events. I also have clients who describe feeling unsure of what they would like to work on. If you have a sense of things not feeling quite right, and would like to gain a sensing of where to start, therapy can be a place that illuminates the answers, through evidence-based techniques and a helpful conversation. (You may also book a free 15-minute consultation with me, and we can figure out the first stepping stone together)
A sincere interest in psychology has led me on the journey of rigorous training and learning over the past decade to comprehensively understand the Science behind the complexities of our human mind, body, and how varying circumstances and environments can shape a person's outlook on life, patterns, and overall well-being.
My passion in supporting one's psychological struggles comes from personal experience, and inspiration from people around, from family, friends, to clients, who have climbed out of the darkest shadows of life and found a light that kept them moving forward. It is from hearing their stories, and being privileged to walk alongside them on their journey, that I have developed a keen interest in how remarkably resilient the human spirit can be with the right support and tools, and how relationships, as much as they can be beautiful, can also be testing and push us in different ways that can lead to further growth if we learn how to harness the pain.
How you are feeling is real, and your experience matters to me. It is part of my duty of care to facilitate therapy in a sensitive manner that feels respectful and safe, whilst empowering you to make the changes you wish to see in your life.
Having engaged in therapy as a client, I understand it may not be easy to open up to someone. At the same time, having experienced an empowering and supportive therapeutic relationship with a mental healthcare professional certainly did help me address personal blocks when I felt stuck in a difficult time while navigating a transition when moving to the UK. I came out the other side with a renewed perspective and a more nurturing relationship with myself. Therapy also contributed to an understanding of my core needs so I can take better care of myself in times of adversity. I am keen to carry all the elements I found to be helpful into my engagement with clients to build a relationship that feels supportive and healing to them, too.
As a psychologist, I am dedicated to working with you to fulfill your hopes for therapy using the models I am trained in: Person-Centred Therapy (PCT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I offer a repertoire of therapeutic frameworks for us to generate a more comprehensive understanding of your psychology by discussing your described experiences and perspectives, and drawing connections to relevant theories and substantiated approaches to design a suitable therapeutic plan together.
I believe that when we have a window to connect with ourselves and understand ourselves better, we can make more informed choices on the steps we can take to improve our life. At every step of the way, I am open to collaborating with you on how we can align our therapeutic plan according to what feels most important to you.
Just by coming here and looking for someone you can contact, you have already taken a significant, huge first step towards taking charge of your mental health. If I seem like someone who seems suitable to walk alongside you on your journey, please get in touch and we can explore the next steps together.
